It is with great pride and a deep sense of privilege to welcome you to the Central Department of Microbiology at Tribhuvan University. The Central Department of Microbiology was formally established on 14th November, 1990, in Tribhuvan University at Kirtipur, as a milestone in Microbiology education and research in the nation. The department is a pioneer in fostering highly skilled human resources in wider aspects of Microbiology in the country. The department aims to serve the country and its people through quality education and impactful research in our discipline. We are dedicated to educating postgraduate and doctoral degree students of microbiology in Nepal.

Our faculty members represent an eclectic combination of talented academics working in diverse research areas of microbiology, including infectious diseases, immunology, molecular biology, virology, parasitology, public health microbiology, microbial biotechnology, environmental microbiology, molecular epidemiology, biochemistry, and others. In addition to research and educational activities, the department and our faculty members provide technical and advisory support to the relevant government institutions of Nepal and international agencies, including the World Health Organization.

The recent methodological advances in microbiology research brought both challenges and opportunities. The department is equipped with advanced laboratory facilities and state-of-the-art equipment required for cutting-edge research. Our facilities are dedicated to research-based education and the application of microorganisms. The department has a moral and scientific duty to contribute towards a better understanding of fundamental principles, mechanisms, and applications of microorganisms for the benefit of humankind and society through meaningful research and educational initiatives. I am confident that the department will achieve these goals with the collective efforts. Over the recent years, our commitment to research and education has been reflected in our research output and growing international collaboration.
